Gobind
Ballav Pant Hospital, a premier Health Institute of North
East India was inaugurated by Late Meher Chand Khanna,
former Union Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation,
Government of India on 14th October, 1961 on 66.85 acres
of land donated by the former Maharaja of Tripura, Kirit
Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. The bed strength at
inception was 250 with all major branches of Medical
discipline accept Maternity and Children. |

In
course of time the bed strength was increase upto 686 with
all branches of Medical Science in curative and diagnostic
disciplines. Over the last 4 decades G.B.P. Hospital was
upgraded into a modern tertiary level hospital befitting a
teaching hospital. |

Agartala
Govt. Medical College has been established in the
sprawling campus of this hospital. To comply all the
requirements of a teaching hospital of a Medical College
the teaching beds of the hospital was reduced to 300 at
inception as per the guideline of MCI. The teaching beds
will be increased upto 500 in the 5th year of the College. |
